Title | William Wilberforce to Samuel Roberts, written from London (own hand) |
Description | Thanks him for his letter. In spite of having given up his Yorkshire seat is very much occupied especially with his mornings in the Secret Committee and evenings in the House. Thanks for friendly present - the volume has been sent to Mrs Wilberforce at Hastings. He himself was much impressed with the frontispiece [which appears to show the Bluecoat boys drawing out the winning Lottery tickets in National lotteries]. He did not know they were employed for this unseemly service. Mr Lyttleton has given notice of a motion to abolish the lottery this year but fears it will not be carried and might be wiser tactics to postpone it until next session.
