TitleWilliam Wilberforce to Samuel Roberts, written from near Uxbridge (part own hand)
DescriptionIs at his cottage to spend Christmas; gives some news of his family. Thanks for executing the commission but as the penknives were not in the parcel, begs that they may be sent. Asks where he can pay and regrets the disuse of £1 notes. Expresses astonishment at the conduct of Mr Fauntleroy. (The rest of the letter in his own hand, dated 18 Jan) Wishes to write himself because the matter is delicate but was delayed by the family Christmas. Discusses the proposed resignation of his seat and whether he should accept Lord Calthorpe’s offer of a quiet seat or resign from Parliament altogether. His decision will depend on his physician whom he has not yet seen again. Enquiries about the Roberts family and Mr Montgomery.
