TitleWilliam Wilberforce to Samuel Roberts, written from: Queen Square, Bath; Kensington Gore; and the Rectory, Beckenham, Kent (part own hand)
DescriptionInitially written from Queen Square, Bath, 10 Dec 1825. Apologises for delay in replying to two letters but has only just received them. In answer to enquiry about the friends of the slaves, there is to be a meeting in London and county meetings will also be held.

(Rest of letter in own hand).

Kensington Gore, 23 Dec. Has been moving about and separated from his amanuensis.

The Rectory, Beckenham, Kent, 27 Dec. The house has been lent as his own is still not ready; 3 months of the summer were spent enquiring into the title before building and repairs could begin. Consequently he has many unanswered letters but wants to finish this. Will enclose £5 for Montgomery’s fund. If money is left over after a piece of plate is bought, it would be an excellent idea to spend it on a Moravian mission station. Wishes he could send a larger sum. Had not realized Montgomery’s parents were Moravians; “they are an excellent set of Xtans”. Has few friends he can ask to contribute to fund as he has worn out his friends with such applications. Asks for more razors to be sent.
