TitleWilliam Wilberforce to Samuel Roberts, written from Bath (own hand)
DescriptionApologizes for not answering sooner; it is because he has been travelling about and not because he is offended at Samuel Roberts’ disapproval that he has become a patron of the Sheffield Music Meeting. Excuses himself for not attending the opening of Parliament because of attendance on Mrs Wilberforce’s aged parents. Is glad the allied armies have been successful but hopes privately that the allies will not become implicated in restoring the pope; “I had rather send to Rome its King than its Pope”. Postscript that he wanted to oblige Madame Catalani.
