TitleJames Montgomery to Samuel Roberts, written from Iris Office, Sheffield
DescriptionApologises for having spoken so warmly on behalf of “an old and truly worthy friend”. Criticism of Samuel Roberts’ literary trivia. Should the piece be published, begs that a fictitious name be printed instead of his own (James Montgomery) as he is “under a cloud in Sheffield, from which I shall never fully emerge till I have gone down into the darkness of the grave”. Dated Monday night, 12 o’clock [1814].
