Title | James Montgomery to Miss Mary Roberts, written from The Mount, Sheffield |
Description | Regrets he cannot go with her and her sister to see Mr Ellis next Monday but is pledged to attend a Wesleyan missionary meeting. Says she has misunderstood his remark that he has found a second portion of an answer sent to her father when James Montgomery returned ‘Theological Speculation on the Scriptures of the New Testament’. Explains he sent the first part of his answer but thinks it was never read by her father as it was found unopened by her brother. Asks that before either her or her brother publish her father’s manuscript, he would like an opportunity to state why he thinks such a course would be expedient. His reply to her father’s Gypsy work was written after that was printed and her father had sent the reply with a copy of the volume to the Quarterly Reviewers from whom it had never been recovered. The short notice attached to the advertisement of ‘Parallel Miracles’ was not written by James Montgomery. Postscript that he will let her have the second part of his remarks on the Theological Treatise if the former part can be found among her father’s literary remains.
