Sees that Friend Montgomery is to give first lecture to new formed Society and fears he may be “rather overdone with this additional demand upon his time and talent”. Anxiety about Friend Bennet’s health and looks forward to the next letter from the South Seas. Death of Mrs Francis Garret in Torquay. Sees from the papers that Mr Roberts is to carry out a plan of travelling in safer conveyances than the present coaches. Thinks this will be difficult to carry out as people do not care to travel separately from their luggage.
