CustodialHistoryHistorically the papers were held by the Law Clerk (usually a prominent local solicitor/attorney) who would undertake work for the Assay Office alongside their day-to-day work commitments. The majority of legal papers were held by the Sheffield-based solicitors Branson and Bramble before being transferred to the Assay Office. They include the papers of one of the longest serving Law Clerks, Col. D. S. Branson, and those of his successors and predecessors.
