AdminHistory | The Sheffield Chamber of Commerce and Manufactures was founded in 1857, and was incorporated in 1899. The constitution provided for a President and Governing Council. The Sheffield Chamber was established to represent and protect the interest of business concerns in Sheffield, and from its inception dealt with matters such as foreign tariffs, changes in the law relating to industry and commerce, transport and communications. The Sheffield Chamber is a accredited through the national body, the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC).
The Sheffield Chamber originally produced a publication called 'Journal', which was replaced in 1929 by 'Quality'. Quality lapsed during the Second World War, but was revived in 1954 as 'Quality of Sheffield'. The Chamber also issued 'Bulletin' which usually included the Council and Committees’ Reports.
The Chamber's current Mission Statement (2017) is 'to support, grow and connect business in Sheffield'. |
