AdminHistory | H. B. Leighton became an Associate of the RIBA in 1914 and a Fellow in 1934. A graduate of Sheffield University, he joined the staff as a junior lecturer in 1914, becoming senior lecturer in charge of the Department of Architecture in 1919 until 1931. From 1928 to 1960 he lectured on a part-time basis in Building Science. In 1920 Mr Leighton won the RIBA Essay Medal for an essay on 'Electrical installations in buildings' and this was a subject which always particularly interested him throughout his career. He maintained a private practice and acted as architect/surveyor for University building maintenance and alterations from 1932 to 1946. During the Second World War Mr Leighton was active in ARP and Civil Defence. He died in 1977. |
