Band 3. Rotherham. Alan Carrathers, Director of Planning for Rotherham talks about the new shopping centre to be developed within the Victorian facade of the Town Hall. Discusses importance of good facilities for Rotherham.
Band 4. Conservative Party. Report on the 4 candidates for the conservative constituency of Hallam and the selection procedure. Each candidate is discussed and the reasons why the seat is an important one.
Band 5. Coal Industry. Gary Morris talks about the background to a new documentary called 'Skin and Coal' [a documentary film by Claudine Boothe], on Black miners in the Doncaster area. He describes the way the industry used to discriminate against Black and the development of integration in some pits. [The story of two generations of Black workers in the British mining industry, living and working in Doncaster, Leeds and Nottingham. Black workers have moved up from the bottom to most mining jobs, but they find more discrimination outside the pits. They talk about how they see themselves in relation to other miners in England, and to the Black South African miners.
