Band 3. Manufacturing Industry. How chairman of a Sheffield-based pewter manufacturing company has saved the company, and taken it out of American hands, after threat of closure. Alan Aitkin set the business up back in 1966, then decided to 'go public' on the American stock exchange and has now 'gone full circle' by buying the business back for over £500,000. The discussion takes place in the workshop and Mr Aitkin tells a bit about the history of the pewter industry, 5 Nov 1986.

Band 4. Boxing. Herol Bomber Graham retains the European Middle Weight Crown after beating Mark Kaylor at Wembly last night 4 Nov 1986. This win extends Graham's unbeaten thirty-seven fights and he is now ranked the no. 1 contender for the World Middle Weight title, 5 Nov 1986.

Band 5. Maxine Bawovske. In the light of a report by the Royal National Institute for the Blind saying blind and partially-sighted people are not getting a fair deal in the employment market, reporter Jo Burgin, talks to Maxine Bawkovske, a telephonist at Sheffield's Employment Department, who is blind, about problems she encountered when looking for employment, 4 Nov 1986.

Band 6. Freedom of Speech. Labour councillors in Sheffield are accused of hindering free speech after they protested to the Bishop of Sheffield concerning the use of a local church hall for a meeting of the right-wing Freedom Association where former Bradford Headmaster Ray Honeyford spoke about his views on the separate education of people from different races, views for which he was sacked for being considered racist, 6 Nov 1986.

Band 7. Fire Service. The Sheffield Central and Southern Fire Service has a new chaplin, Rev. Gordon Wilson. Recently Rev. Wilson spent a day being a fireman in a novel way of getting to know his new congregation, 7 Nov 1986.

Band 8. South Yorkshire Police. Sheffield City Council is to set up a body of councillors to liaise with the police. The creation of the 'police panel' follows the abolition of South Yorkshire County Council which used to be responsible for running the county force. This has been replaced with a new joint board of councillors from the four districts. The chairman of Sheffield's new police panel, Sheena Clarke, says the new body will provide a link between the city's joint board representatives and council departments and will help crime prevention and improve police accountability, 7 Nov 1986.
