The Bogawantalawa District Tea Company Limited was incorporated 5 Feb 1897. The company grew and manufactured tea in Sri Lanka until 16 Oct 1975 when the fixed assets and business in Sri Lanka were nationalised.
On 16 Oct 1975 all the company's fixed assets and business interests in Sri Lanka were compulsorily acquired by the Sri Lankan Government. An agreement was reached with the Sri Lankan Governement for compensation to the company for fixed assets payable over five years from 1977 to 1981.
