AdminHistory | Amongst other things (such as Sunday working, working outdoors etc.) these byelaws prohibited children (aged 15 plus) from working as a lather boy in a barbers or hairdressers, working in kitchens in any hotel or food shop; as a marker or attender in any billiard or bagatelle saloon or other place licenced for games; in the sale of intoxicating liquors (unless sold in sealed vessels); working in theatres, musical halls, picture theatres for the place of public entertainment; collecting or sorting rags or refuse; in any fairground used for amusement by automatic machines, mutoscopes [for viewing flip card 'films'], shooting ranges, games of chance or skill, etc.; in any slaughterhouse; in or in connection with any racing course; in the delivery of milk; in any agricultural work involving heavy strain and, in particular in extracting sugar beet crops from the ground; in any agricultural work under the control of a gang master. |
