AdminHistory | This collection features various papers relating to community action / regeneration campaigns in Burngreave / Pitsmoor in which the donor of the records was involved, including the Abbeyfield Park Playground Association.
The Abbeyfield Park Playground Association was a local campaign group (established in 1990) run by local parents to raise money to refurbish the playground at Abbeyfield Park, Pitsmoor, driven by concerns over its general safety standards and a desire to imporve the play facilities there. The community campaign involved various social/fund-raising events, including summer and Christmas fairs and family trips to the coast. The campaigners worked with Sheffield City Council to raise money for the cost of the playground refurbishment. As a spin-off from the campaign, some members of the group went on to set up a summer playscheme in the park and others moved onto a new campaign for the building of an after-school club at Firshill School. |
