Activity | A community led project delivering social, economic and environmental change within Sheffield and South Yorkshire. The project was funded by Sheffield Public Health. EEQOL worked through a community advocacy and research role to give practical support to community forums in Tinsley, Darnall, and Handsworth. The project co-ordinated a city-wide community network monitoring air quality, and used diffusion tubes to monitor levels of nitrogen dioxide.
The aims of the Initiative were to develop an integrated policy framework for sustainable regeneration in Sheffield's East End; facilitate active community participation in development, monitoring, evaluation and review of regeneration policy in the area; develop a Health Impact Assessment as a vehicle for policy development, organisational change and community development; and establish enduring participatory decision-making structures. Much of EEQOL's work was involved in co-ordinating teams of community volunteers to record air quality data, in co-operation with Sheffield City Council.
The Initiative ceased at the end of March 2018 following the withdrawal of funding. At this time community air quality monitoring was continued by Sheffield City Council's Air Quality team. |
