Activity | Eveline Armitage was born in Middlesborough on 17 June 1906, and moved to Sheffield with her family aged 5. She trained to be a teacher at Sheffield Teacher Training College, and her first teaching appointment was at Newhall Junior School. In addition to her work as a teacher, she was an active member of the Railway Women’s Guild, the Sheffield Branch of the National Union of Teachers, and the Sheffield Labour Women’s Advisory Council. On her retirement from teaching, she volunteered at Hollow Meadows Hospital and Sheffield Probation Service. Eveline went on he serve as Lady Mayoress of Sheffield, alongside her husband Councillor George Armitage in 1979. She died in 1993. |
