Activity | The Sheffield-Bochum Adult Exchange (SBAE) was established in 1974. It was a voluntary organisation involved in arranging annual exchange visits to and from Bochum, Sheffield’s twin city in Germany. The exchanges were originally aimed at adult students learning German, particularly those that attended classes at Sheffield College or the University of Sheffield Division of Continuing Education. Later, the purpose of exchange visits was to ‘promote and encourage a better interest in, understand and knowledge of each other’s language and way of life amongst adults of all ages and all walks of life, thus contributing to friendship and peace between our two countries’ (See the SBAE Constitution updated in 2000). The organisation closed down in 2009. |
