York Minster has more than you might think, with collections including silver, glass, stonework, archaeology, monuments, treasures and textiles spanning 2000 years, and archives and manuscripts dating back to about the year 1000.
These items tell hundreds of stories, hinting at the lives of the people who created, owned and used them.
Many of them are used daily in the cathedral. Our collections and our catalogue are always growing, so please keep checking!
To explore the catalogue use the search box or select 'Advanced search'.
Printed collections
York Minster also holds the largest cathedral library in England. Our library service is delivered in collaboration with the University of York, and our printed collections can be searched via YorSearch or Library Hub Discover.
Sensitivity statement
The online collections catalogues are working databases that include information compiled over decades and centuries. These records may contain offensive and discriminatory language, or reflect outdated ideas, practice and analysis. We are committed to addressing these issues, and to reviewing and updating our catalogue records accordingly. You can write to us to suggest improvements to the catalogue records: collections@yorkminster.org.
