The volume mainly consists of correspondence between the Foreign Office and Kew, with draft letters from Joseph Hooker and Thiselton-Dyer, and letters to Hooker and Thiselton-Dyer, sending newspaper cuttings and publications to Kew. Foreign Office correspondents include Viscount Enfield, T V Lister, Robert Henry Meade, Julian Pauncefote, Charles W Dilke and J A Crowe. Includes information regarding a prize to be awarded to the creator of an effective treatment for phylloxera; the disease's spread in France and Algeria; the production of spirits in France; and publications on phylloxera and its treatment.
