Includes manuscript [copy and draft] letters, 11 Feb-4 Jun 1885, from Joseph Hooker [in the hand of Thiselton-Dyer] and Arthur Elibank Havelock [Governor of Trinidad, 1885] regarding the style and contents of the reports prepared by the Government Botanist H Prestoe, and subjects including preventing the introduction of coffee leaf disease from Mauritius, Camoensia, the enlargement of the Herbarium, the creation of a 'permanent collection of authentically named indigenous plants', sugar cane sent by Kew, and requesting that Prestoe create a list of the known plants of the island.

Includes press cuttings, 4 Jun 1887-1 Sep 1890, from GALL'S WEEKLY NEWSLETTER, NEW ERA, PUBLIC OPINION and THE PORT-OF-SPAIN GAZETTE praising and critiquing the reports, and on playing 'sacred' instrumental music in the Gardens on a Sunday afternoon, and objections from Protestant Clergy.
