Description	Manuscript and typescript letters and reports, printed documents and press cuttings regarding botanical and economic botany matters relating to North West Africa, including Algeria, Morocco, and Tunisia. Volume includes letters to Joseph Hooker, Thiselton-Dyer, and Morris, with letters and notes by Thiselton-Dyer, Jackson and [William] Watson. Includes correspondence with the India Office, and Foreign Office. Volume includes sections on the following subjects: Algeria -- Alfa -- (Ff38, 46, 49-51) Papers regarding alfa [or alpha] grass and use in paper manufacture. See section on Esparto. -- Dates -- (Ff1-36) Papers regarding the propagation and cultivation of the date palm, the date trade, and on sending seeds and shoots to India. -- Esparto -- (Ff38, 46, 52-56) Papers regarding esparto grass and use in paper manufacture. See section on Alfa. Includes: - THE ESPARTO-FIBRE INDUSTRY OF TUNIS (1896). -- Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus)-- (Ff38-48) Includes: - SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT BY CONSUL-GENERAL PLAYFAIR ON THE CULTURE OF EUCALYPTUS IN ALGERIA [1877]. -- Phylloxera -- (Ff57-63). -- Sulla (Hedysarum Coronarium) -- (Ff69-70) Includes: - SOAP TREE OF ALGERIA (1905). -- Thuya -- (Ff64-68) Includes copy letter from Prince Napoléon Bonaparte (1822-1891), and papers regarding sending wood samples to Kew. Includes: - THE CEDAR AND CORK FORESTS OF ALGERIA (1895) Morocco -- Economics -- (Ff71-90) Papers regarding cultivation and acquisition of samples of the argan tree (Argania Sideroxylon) [Sideroxylon spinosum] and gum ammoniacum, known as 'fassook' or 'feshook'. Includes letters from George P Hunot. -- Gum Euphorbium for paint -- (Ff91-122) Includes letters from consular officials regarding trade. North-West Africa -- Pistacia Atlantica -- (Ff123-152) Includes letters regarding specimens for the Kew Museum, and report by Reynard [Forest Inspector, Algeria]. Tunis -- White Fathers of St Joseph of Thibar -- (Ff153-) Papers regarding supplying the White Fathers of St Joseph of Thibar in Tunis with samples of cereals and forage plants from Kew. Includes letters from The Royal Seed Establishment, Reading. Volume also includes (f23) article on cotton cultivation and trade in French Sudan [Mali].
