HistoryAfter graduating from Trinity College, Dublin with first class honours in natural science, Morris served as assistant director of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Ceylon. From 1879 to 1886, he was the director of the Botanic Department in Jamaica, during which time, he collected botanical specimens in British Honduras in 1882. He served as assistant director under William Thiselton-Dyer at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew from 1886 to 1898 and after this, he was Imperial Commissioner, West Indian Agricultrual Department. From 1908 to 1913, he was Scientific Advisor in Tropical Agriculture to the Colonial Office. During his lifetime, Morris published several works concerning mainly agriculture in the Caribbean. He also became Vice-President of the Royal Horticultural Society and of the Royal Empire Society.
