HistoryIn April 1837, Jones was appointed as an assistant in the library of the British Museum. In 1850 he became Assistant Keeper of Printed Books, and Principal Librarian in 1866. The building of the museum at South Kensington for the natural history departments of the British Museum was carried out under him.
