HistoryIn 1900 Ogilvie was appointed Director of the Edinburgh Museum of Science and Art, which passed under the Scottish Education Department in 1901. In February 1903 he was transferred to London as Principal Assistant Secretary (Technology and Higher Education in Science and Art) under the Board of Education.

In 1910 he was re-assigned as Secretary of the Board for the Science Museum, South Kensington, the Geological Museum and the Geological Survey. Director of the Science Museum, 1911-1920.
