HistoryElected to the Linnean Society in 1806. In 1820 Hooker was appointed Regius Professor of Botany at Glasgow University. Director of Kew, 1841-1865.

Following Hooker's death his personal herbarium and library were offered for sale to the nation, and were purchased for Kew in 1866.
