HistoryAfter graduating in 1913, Thomas was appointed a member of the Indian Agricultural Service and joined the Agricultural College of Coimbatore, South India. He later became the Deputy Director of Agriculture, Madras. In 1917, he travelled to Mesopotamia (now known as Iraq) and became the Deputy Director of Agricultural Research before rising to the position of Director General of Agriculture in 1920. He resigned from government service in 1920 and spent time studying cotton growing techniques in the USA, Egypt, Sudan and Mexico. After joining the British Cotton Growing Association at Khanewal, India, he began farming with a view to improving farming generally and that of cotton in particular. In 1944, he was appointed Minister for Agriculture, Sind Government. He was awarded a knighthood in 1947.
