HistoryAfter completing his military training, Everett was appointed vice-consul at Erzeroum to oversee the provisions of the Anglo-Turkish convention. In 1880, he served on a commission to define the Turco-Persian frontier. He became the consul in Kurdistan from 1882 to 1887. After being severely injured in an attempt on his life, he became professor of military topography at the Staff College from 1888 until 1892. From 1893 until 1901, he was employed in the intelligence division of the war office with the rank of colonel, after which time he retired.
