HistoryAdministrator in British India and partially responsible for negotiating the opening of British trade with Tibet. In 1867 Macaulay passed the Indian Civil Service entrance examination and was sent to Bengal. He served as District Inspector in Bacoorah, then appointed assistant secretary to the Government of Bengal. He was later assigned to famine relief in Burdwan division in 1874.
