HistoryServed in Indian civil service from 1912-15 and joined the political service in 1915. From 1916-19 he was British vice-consul in Kerman, Iran. From 1922-24, was posted in Kashgar, in Chinese Turkestan as British consul general. From 1926-29 he was British consul in Seistan. In 1936 he was appointed as agent for Madras States. Served as first resident for Madras States from 1937-39. From 1946-48, served as Counsellor for Indian Affairs in Tehran, Persia.
