HistoryAfter obtaining a diploma as a pharmaceutical assistant , Schorlemmer adopted chemsitry as his chosen profession. In 1861, he began his research into organic chemistry which characterised the majority of his life's work. He became a lecturer at Owens College, University of Manchster in 1873, and in 1874, he became the first professor of organic chemistry in England.
