HistoryHermann Crueger became apothecary in Trinidad 1841. In 1857 he became director and government botanist at the Royal Botanic Gardens of Trinidad and Tobago. Crueger collected plants in Jamaica, Trinidad and Venezuela, and was valued by Charles Darwin for his knowledge of floral biology. On his death he donated his herbarium to the Royal Botanic Gardens of Trinidad and Tobago, and sent samples to Berlin and Kew Gardens.
