AdminHistoryRobert William Theodore Günther (1869 – 1940) was a zoologist and the founder of the Museum of the History of Science, Oxford.

Günther was born on 23 August 1869 to Albert Günther (Keeper of Zoology at the British Museum in London), and his wife, Roberta Mitchell née McIntosh. Robert Gunther was educated at University College School, attached to University College London and he also attended lectures at University College. In 1887 he was elected to a demyship at Magdalen College, Oxford, and once there he joined the Oxford University Scientific Club. He later took up a Fellowship at the College. He married, in 1900, Amy née Neville-Rolfe, daughter of Eustace Neville-Rolfe CVO (1845–1908) and they had two sons. From 1923-1945 Günther produced a fourteen volume set of books on Early Science in Oxford 1945. A fifteenth volume was written by his son A. E. Gunther in 1967 which mentioned his father. Between 1926 and 1930, Gunther founded the Museum of the History of Science in the Old Ashmolean building. Günther died on 9 March 1940.

The first section is entitled '[E.A.] Minchin's Lectures on Sponges, Mich. Term, 1890' [at Oxford]. Comprises 82 folios of notes including multiple illustrations (some with colour).
