DescriptionLetters written by McLaren to his parents in Scotland. The letters were written on a regular, sometimes weekly, basis and include information on the development of his career, accounts of his travels and discussions of his work, alongside family business and personal information (often relating to his health). Includes detailed accounts of his visits to China (1949-50) and India (1952-53) working on UNESCO educational projects. A small number of letters written by McLaren to other family members in Scotland and the USA are also included.

This series also includes letters written to Helen Biggar and Vera Baird Wilson. In 1936 McLaren made the anti-war film Hell Unltd with Helen Biggar. The letters written by McLaren to Biggar in this series relate to the making of the film. McLaren met Vera Baird Wilson in New York in 1940 and they became close friends.
